A staple ingredient in Filipino kitchens. An ube is a yam. Not to be confused with sweet potatoes. Yams are creamier than other savoury potatoes like brown russet or yukon gold as these a much starchier – which means that if you cut it that it leaves a starchy white residue.

Our ube latte features a creamy base of ube-flavoured milk and then topped with a shot of (strong) espresso.

What does ube (iced) latte taste like?

The flavour of fresh ube is like a mild yam. Not as sweet as the typical orange yam that are either mashed or buried in toasted marshmallows. It’s very coconutty, in comparison of pure yam. To be simple, it’s like a combination of vanilla with the nuttiness of pistachio. Its flavour is quite gentle and not too intense.

The flavour of ube extract is different and it is a lot less subtle. It’s like if you were to compare an almond and its almond extract flavour, it just tastes different, same goes for ube.

Is ube (iced) latte something for me?

Even if you dislike coconut, you should try it. It might not look appetising, but it definitely has a nice aesthetic. You can choose from a variety of types of milk/non-dairy milk and the level (4) of roasts of your coffee.
